Bret Leon Williams
aka TehDude
Geek from day one, math wiz, all around good guy. From the small town of Bisbee AZ, to early electronics and computer programming, Bret landed a job in the mid '80's at a small Redmond WA based company called Microsoft. He assisted in the development of, and support of MSMail, which evolved into Exchange / Outlook. Probably one to be a bit generous and kind, fate kicked him in the ass a few times, but Bret always came out still standing and looking forward. Embracing new technology was easy for Bret. He just understood it.
After forming a friendship with somecallmeTim at dark place of former employment, Bret was active in the support and running of SpokLAN.net from the get-go. He mostly played strategy games, didn't care for FPS at all... "Damn kids and their shooters". This all changed when we bought him Battlefield 1942. Bret could get in a tank, or fly a plane. From that moment on, he was hooked. He even played Unreal Tournament with us, and various other FPSs. It took a few tries, but Bret finally came up with a suitable gamer handle... TehDude. It fit. He completely embodied the title character from The Big Lebowski and even kind of looked like the guy. Since "TheDude", and variants were taken, Bret adopted TehDude because, you know, teh instead of the. Plus, it wasn't taken
Over the years, TehDude made a number of videos for the SpokLAN Kamikaze Jeep Patrol, worked with the Sir. community on mod development and testing, as well as video production / editing. TehDude was welcomed into ClanHOOD, and proudly wore his tag until his sudden passing after the windstorm in November of 2015.
He's survived by his wife Bonnie, [HOOD]-MrsDude, and his step kids and beloved step grandkids.
He's missed and still loved.
His passing sparked a renewal in holding LAN parties, the first of which was in his honor. Each event, SpokLAN.net and ClanHOOD remember TehDude, and Patman.
